When I leave out of a Big and Tall store I wonder, "why the confusion?". Clearly, they are catering to the "bigger man", so why not call it the Big Man's Store.
When I call retail stores and ask if they carry Big and Tall sizes, the respond, "no, we only go up to size 2XLT, nothing bigger". Huh? Apparently the world defines it as someone who is Big plus Tall, which is not accurate. There are millions of other men that fall out of the "fashion norn", but fit well within the confines of Big and Tall.
Mens Big And Tall Stores
Do you know what phrase I like? Hard to fit. It has enough room for everyone. I am not just tall, but tall with an athletic frame. I have big thighs and a slimmer waist, larger arms and a broad chest. My feet are humongous and my head is fit for orbiting the sun. I am a mish mosh of this and that. Definitely "hard to fit".
When I read about the estimated 20 million Big and Tall men who live in the United States, I wonder who that is. I tend to think they are 6'1" or taller and have a waistline 42" or larger. Hogwash! If they included everyone, that number would double.
How does this sound? 40 million hard to fit men. We are Big and Tall, Tall and Slim, Short and Big, Tall and Athletic, and all variances in between. Quite a force, huh?
At first glance, it would seem this post is about my displeasure with the phrase "Big and Tall", which it is. But it is also about the attention we can garner from designers if we used a more unified, inclusive phrase to describe our needs.
Another phrase that was suggested was "Big or Tall". I like that as well.
